Missouri women’s basketball finished up a two-game homestand with a 78-49 win against Arkansas-Little Rock to extend their winning streak to four games.
Guards Grace Slaughter and Nyah Wilson both shined for the Tigers with 19 points each. Slaughter accumulated her points mainly in the first half while Wilson made her impact in the second half. Wilson’s 19 points was a season high for the New Mexico transfer.
“I think my teammates did a great job of just pushing,” Slaughter said. “We saw in SLU just the benefits of running the court, and I think that just showed up quite a bit in today’s game.”
The first quarter was a breeze for the Tigers from the very beginning, largely due to the impressive play from Slaughter. She shot six for seven from the field including two three-pointers. Her play and great defense helped Missouri to a 25-7 lead at the end of the first quarter.
A 6-0 run for the Trojans early in the second quarter cut the Tigers’ lead to 12. However, Missouri extended their lead to 44-22 at the half despite only shooting 30% in the second quarter.
Wilson took over in the third quarter for the Tigers, shooting six for eight with 15 points in the quarter, helping the Tigers extend their lead to 66-30 going into the fourth quarter..
In a quarter that didn’t have high stakes with such a big lead for Missouri, the Tigers only scored 12 points and cruised to a 78-49 win.
After two early losses for the Tigers, they have bounced back well ahead of some heightened competition next week.
“Out of the gates, that wasn’t our team,” head coach Robin Pingeton said. “They understand what the mission is, and how do we continue to lean into ‘we over me’ and just get better one day at a time.”
The Tigers look to continue their momentum in the Emerald Coast Classic at Destin, Fla. on Monday Nov. 25 against the Syracuse Orange.
