KCOU and MUTV will be hosting the third annual Battle of the Bands Wednesday, Oct. 29 at 7pm in The Shack. Come watch your fellow MU peers battle it out – it’s guaranteed to be an awesome show. Don’t forget to enter the raffle, tickets are only $1, and there are some pretty cool prizes in there.

Dangerfield

Dangerfield is from Columbia, MO with an indie pop/classic rock fusion sound. Using musical influences such as Guns n’ Roses, Jack White, and Built To Spill, Dangerfield creates unique arrangements incorporating each member’s diverse musical background. The band formed in late 2013 and began to slowly combine their individual talents and ideas to create their first songs by the beginning of spring 2014. Since then, Dangerfield has released an EP and performed around Missouri. With their melodic vocals, steady bass and drum sound driven by a hard hitting guitar duo, the band knows how to electrify a live performance. Dangerfield has won two battle of the bands competitions while also providing fans with quality music that is one of a kind in itself.

 The Penniless Profits

After several years of changing lineups, guitarist Marcus Wildhaber and vocalist/bassist Logan Wyatt seem to have found a match with percussionist Blake Stockman. In late 2012 they formed the musical cacophony that is the Penniless Profits. Coming to you out of the River City with a heart full of blues, a soul made of funk, and minds of the avant-garde psychedelic type, you’re sure to walk away with a blown mind and face melted. With a strong political stance and mystical overtones, they send their message hard. Coming from diverse backgrounds of Traditional Blues, Classic Rock, Funk, Jazz, Avant Garde, Jam Bands, Psychedelic Blues/Rock, Progressive Rock and a slight stint in the Metal scene, these three musicians have found a niche they feel extremely comfortable with. Sharing common influences like Albert King, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, Aphrodite’s Child, ELP, and The Grateful Dead (the list can go on and on) they have developed a sound unique to them. Going from a traditional blues jam to a progressive King Crimson-esque jam is not uncommon in their live shows. They are extremely diverse in their musical ability. They pride themselves on their improv jams – which almost all of their music is made up of – and some songs with basic structure like most jazz compositions. This is a spectacle to be seen by one and all.

 Ray Wild

Ray Wild is an explosive combo of shredding guitar, groovy basslines, and sexy vocals that is here to bring back that funky rock and roll. Inspired by the rock gods of Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers- Ray Wild’s music will get you on your feet and banging your head.

 Aven and Heney

Thomas Heney and Tim Aven make up the acoustic rock/blues/singer songwriter duo that is Aven and Heney. They are characterized by a wide variety of sound; from country to Eric Clapton. Thomas and Tim have known each other since they were young, and they first started playing together freshman year of high school. Thomas initially taught Tim how to play guitar, and by the end of high school, Tim had learned enough to start playing shows, and this is when Aven and Heney was born. It’s their freshman year here at Mizzou, and they are serious as ever about playing with each other. Aven and Heney now has an EP out and are working hard to get their next out sometime in November.

 Naasa Fikri

Naasa Fikri was born in Ponorogo, a small town in Indonesia. He learned to play the drums on his own at just 3 years old. When he was 11, he picked up guitar and it changed his life. His musical project varies from bands, poetry with music, and even musical theater. He likes to combine organic acoustic instruments and synthetic electronic instruments in his compositions. Even though his music varies, he describes himself as a Progressive Metal musician. He is currently in a contemporary metal cover band with some junior high friends, playing songs from Dream Theater, Avenged Sevenfold, Bullet for My Valentine, Paramore, and more.
