I stumbled upon the up and coming London band Vaults after listening to their song “Premonitions” on My Old Kentucky Blog’s Sirius XMU session. When I first listened to the lead vocalist, I couldn’t help but be stunned by the uncanny resemblance to the powerful vocals of London Grammar’s leading singer, Hannah Reid. However this band has a sound and identity all their own. The electro-pop beats combined with lyrics of defiance and a haunting aura make for unbelievably addicting songs. They have released 4 songs on their SoundCloud account, including 4 originals and one cover of Alt-J’s “Hunger of the Pine.” Not only is their Alt-J cover (arguably) stronger than the original, but their original songs are executed to near perfection. Their sound is so clean, the production is remarkably well done, and every song is eerily beautiful. It’s hard to believe that this band does not have a full length album out yet. They are simply too good to be new.
This talented trio isn’t entirely hidden, though. Vaults is currently touring the UK and Ireland as an opener for Paolo Nutini. They have also opened a show for London Grammar in the past. Nylon Magazine even did the honor of officially releasing the first song from their upcoming EP, “Vultures,” in early October. When they do release full length material, they are bound to have some help making it known and making it huge.

Kelly is a sophomore at the University of Missouri from Annapolis, MD. While she is currently majoring in Secondary Social Studies Education, she lives and breathes music. The majority of her spare time is spent listening to music, helping behind the scenes of concerts and festivals, attending concerts or blogging about music.
