The Tigers put forth an impressive performance in their home opener against the Wofford Terriers, beating them 83 to 74.
Simply put, the young Missouri squad outplayed their opponents. The tigers outshot the Terriers 56% to 38% and recorded 9 more defensive rebounds. Touted Oak Hill Academy alumnus and Freshman guard Terrence Phillips finished with 7 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists but it was Freshman Kevin Puryear who had the most impressive performance tonight. Puryear made over 50% of his shots and finished with a team high 20 points and 5 rebounds and should continue to make big waves as the season progresses.
While the Tigers did have a couple of hiccups throughout the game running plays and only scored 69% of their free throws, the team’s relentless aggression on defense and constant energy was more than sufficient to compensate for their mistakes and allow them to pull out the win. This is a young team that’s bound to make mistakes, but shows promise of a much more successful season than last year.
