The Missouri Tigers hit the road this week to take on the Purdue Boilermakers, hoping to stay undefeated and enact some revenge after a 35-3 loss on their own turf. On a historic night for both QBs, the game would come down to the final seconds of regulation. Literally.
Mizzou opened the scoring with a 40-yard field goal from Tucker McCann but were quickly answered by the David Blough and the Purdue offense who marched down the field to and took a 7-3 lead. A Mizzou touchdown pass, and another field goal would put the Tigers up 13-7 at the end of the first quarter.
Purdue would strike first in the second quarter, settling for a field goal in the red zone to make the score 13-10 Mizzou. Mizzou would add two more touchdown passes, one to Jaden Knox and Albert Okwuegbunam, stretching the lead to 27-10. However, the Boilermakers got back on track adding a rushing touchdown and a touchdown pass late in the second quarter. Heading into the locker room, Mizzou held a slim 27-24 lead.
A Purdue field goal opened the second half while tying the game at 27-27. That tie would be short lived as Drew Lock would scramble into the end zone for an 8-yard rushing touchdown as the Tigers pulled ahead 34-27. McCann would extend the Mizzou lead after another field goal, this time from 31 yards, making it 37-27 at the end of the third.
Purdue once again opened the scoring in the final quarter. Rondale Moore would rush for a 7-yard touchdown to make it 37-34. Purdue would again march down the field and find the endzone. However, a controversial official review would erase what would have been 9-yard go-ahead TD pass from Blough to Jared Sparks. The Boilermakers would settle for a field goal and knot it up at 37 apiece.
On the final drive, Mizzou would march down the field setting up a 25-yard field goal for McCann. McCann put the ball through the uprights as time expired to seal the victory for the Tigers 40-37. Purdue QB David Blough would set the school single-game passing yards record while Drew Lock would pass Eli Manning for sixth all-time in the SEC in passing touchdowns. Purdue falls to 0-3 on the season while Mizzou remains undefeated at 3-0. The Tigers will host the Bulldogs of Georgia next week.
