Playing in Mizzou Arena, home to Missouri men’s and women’s basketball due to flooding at the Hearnes Center, Missouri volleyball looked right at home Friday.
After losing two straight SEC conference games within the past week, the Tigers redeemed tehmselves with a conference win against the South Carolina Gamecocks.
The Tigers swept the Gamecocks 3-0 by scores of 25-22, 25-11, and 30-28. The match was to be Gamecocks’ second loss of the season, but their first loss in conference play.
The Tigers had a powerful offense from start to finish. Sophomore Kylie Deberg led with an impressive 16 kills for the match. Senior Alyssa Munlyn followed with 10 and sophomore Tyanna Omazic had 8.
Missouri’s defense dominated the court all the way around. Junior Riley Sents led the team with 11 digs along with 2 assists. Sophomore Dariana Hollingsworth was not far behind with 9, Andrea Fuentes with 8, and junior Sun Wenting with 4- all strong numbers for the Tigers.
In the end, service errors and poor defense led South Carolina to fall behind on the way to the loss. Missouri is now 13-4 and face the Arkansas Razorbacks Sunday afternoon at Mizzou Arena.
