Columbia Mo—Fresh off a 4-1 victory last night against Southern Mississippi, The Missouri Tigers were back at it Saturday afternoon taking on the Golden Eagles again.
A.J. Glasshof was on the mound for Southern Miss and did not get off to a good start, walking three and giving up two singles as Mizzou scored three runs off him. Glasshof did not enjoy any more success in the second inning as Mizzou tagged him for two more runs, knocking him out of the game after an inning and two thirds of work. Glasshof left surrendering a total of five earned runs, as Mizzou sent 17 batters to the plate through the first two innings.
Southern Miss stormed back scoring three runs (one earned) keeping them in the game. The main damage was a two RBI’s double, taking third via throwing error, by Connor Barron. Mizzou starter John Miles was able to limit the damage getting out of the inning with the lead, and went back to work with a scoreless next couple of innings.
Miles ran into some trouble in the sixth giving up a double to Mason Robbins. Austin Tribby relieved Miles and gave up a double, putting runners on second and third. Southern Mississippi picked up another run in the sixth off a miss-play by Josh Lester, though the play ended in an unusual single, 9-5-1-4 double play.
Up until the bottom of the 8^th, the game had only two combined hits until Jake Ring got a base hit to left, followed shortly by a hit and run by Josh Lester putting runners on first and third. A double steal of home and second gave Mizzou an insurance run as they entered the ninth ahead 6-4.
After coming in for the 8^th, Keaton Steele completed a six-out save, his third of the year giving Mizzou the victory.
John Miles picked up the win moving to 2-0, and A.J. Glasshof took the loss dropping his record to 1-1. The two teams play again tomorrow, with first pitch scheduled for 12pm.
