There was no second intermission and there was a running clock with 10 minutes left in the second period; Kansas could not get out of the state of Missouri soon enough.
Mizzou defeated their rival from the west in stunning fashion pouring it on and not stopping in a 15-1 victory over the Jayhawks Saturday afternoon.
The Tigers were coming off a 7-4 victory the night before in a game that was extremely chippy and many players were ejected. Many thought the bad blood would carry over into Saturday’s game, but there was only one penalty the whole game.
Instead the Jayhawks looked hapless on defense and struggled to even advance the puck into the neutral zone much less into the Tigers end of the ice. Without a few key saves from Kansas goalie Stephan Blank the score could have been worse.
Matt Weller, Matt Baker, and Adam Berge all scored two goals in the rout. The Tigers scored five goals in the first period, six in the second and four in the third. The shorthanded Jayhawk squad struggle to keep up from the beginning, and playing in back to back nights, they looked out of steam.
Adam Kassly played well in net for the Tigers despite seeing limited action. Kassly even seemed to be visibly upset after allowing a late goal to blow the shutout for Mizzou.
With the weekend series sweep of Kansas, the Tigers recorded their first two victories of the season.
