The Georgia Bulldogs (17-6) defeated the Missouri Tigers (18-5) by a score of 65-50 Thursday night at Mizzou Arena.
The Tigers came out firing as they quickly jumped out to an 11-6 lead following a Morgan Stock three-pointer. But the Bulldogs closed in quickly to close out the quarter on a 6-0 run.
After several lead changes in the first and second quarter, the Bulldogs began to pull away at the end of the first half, and headed into the locker room with a 26-21 lead. The backcourt for the Bulldogs hurt the Tigers in the first half, scoring 16 of the 26 points.
In the third quarter, Missouri closed the gap on Georgia but couldn’t find a tie or lead until Sophie Cunningham nailed a key three-pointer at the buzzer to make it 37-37 at the end of the third quarter.
Momentum seemed to shift the Tigers’ way after quickly seizing the lead in the early minutes of the fourth quarter. However, it wouldn’t last long as Tiaria Griffin took over for the Bulldogs and sparked a 17-2 run in a little over four and a half minutes. The Bulldogs also made their last five field goals of the game.
Sophie Cunningham finished with a game-high 17 points and eight rebounds, while Georgia’s Tiaria Griffin accumulated 15 points and four rebounds.
The Georgia Bulldogs snapped the Missouri Tigers’ three-game winning streak and will head back to Athens, Ga. to play Ole Miss, while the Tigers look to rebound on the road against 11th ranked Mississippi State.
