Sundays from 6-8pm, KCOU is transported into the world that is The Holy Mountain. Here you’ll find psychedelic, funky, avant-garde music intertwined with sound clips from old films and television shows. Chris Merritt started the show last year as a way to get in touch with the more experimental side of KCOU. He a lover of psychedelic music and weirdness in general, and The Holy Mountain is the perfect outlet for this.
Chris (pictured center) asked Zach Kerns (left) and Sean Brown (right) to join his show this semester, knowing that while the amalgam of their tastes would overlap, each of them would be able to bring their own weird point of view to the show.
During their two hours, Chris, Sean, and Zach sort through mountains of records that they’ve hauled to the studio, picking out the weirdest/druggiest/most unconventional from the bunch. Don’t be surprised if you hear a ten minute song on this show; Chris explained that he tends to push for longer, instrumental songs. He wants to move away from the generic, super-structured four minute pop songs that are so typically played on the radio, and allow the listener to dedicate some time and fall into a psychedelic trance that he so wonderfully creates.
Chris’ parting words: sanity not guaranteed.
