7 2/3 innings of two-hit ball for southpaw and Missouri starter Art Joven led the Tigers to a 2-1 win over Murray State Tuesday.
Designated-hitter Peter Zimmermann homered into the Mizzou bullpen with two outs in the first inning. Murray State outfielder Tyler Duke hit an RBI fielder’s choice in the third inning to tie the game at one. That was it for the scoring until a two-out eighth inning RBI single by the Tigers’ Mark Vierling.
Reliever Jordan Gubelman got the final four outs for Missouri, extending his team-high scoreless inning streak to 10.2 innings. Gubelman is now 2-0 on the season and his Missouri Tigers move to 12-8, 0-3 in the SEC on the year.
Murray State second baseman Jordan Holly accounted for two of his team’s three hits with bunt singles in the third and eighth innings. Braydon Cook took the loss for Murray State moving his season record to 0-1. The Racers are now 8-11 on the season.
Mizzou leads the Racers 9-8 in the all-time series now and will meet Murray State again Wednesday at Taylor Stadium for the second game of a two game series.
