The Missouri Tigers took on the Drake Bulldogs in Game 2 of the Mizzou Tournament in Columbia, MO on Friday March 2, 2018.
Mizzou started rolling immediately by scoring the first one of the game in the bottom of the 1st inning courtesy of a RBI single by Rylee Pierce, bringing in Amanda Sanchez, Regan Nash advancing to 3rd base, and Pierce advancing to 2nd base, off of a throwing error by Drake 2nd baseman, Kennedy Frank. The Tigers weren’t able to capitalize on the opportunity to bring in two more as Burnside flew out to Center Field.
In the bottom of the 2nd inning, Cayla Kessinger hit a bomb to left field earning a triple but was injured at the end of the play causing her to exit the game and Abby George entered as pinch runner. George was thrown out at home the following play as Regan Nash hit into a fielder’s choice to home.
Drake started to get the ball rolling off a single by Gabbi Jonas. Two batters later, Tasha Alexander gained a RBI double bringing Jonas home. The Bulldogs threatened to score after Taryn Pena singled to shortstop and Alexander advanced to third but the inning ended with a fly out to LF by Kelsey Wright.
The Tigers exploded in the bottom of the 3rd inning starting with a double to CF by Sanchez, a single from Braxton Burnside, a 2RBI double from Brooke Wilmes, and a RBI single by Kolby Romaine to extend the Tiger lead 4-1.
The Bulldogs gained two walks in the op of the 4th inning causing Lauren Rice to be subbed out in favor of Eli Daniel. Marcy Johnson got a RBI Single but the Bulldogs strand 2 to end the inning.
In the top of the 7th inning, Drake threated to tie the game. Pena singled to SS and Kailee Smith hit a single to RF. Sarah Maddox got a RBI single to CF bringing in Pinch Runner Libby Ryan. The Tigers survived the Bulldogs threat as Frank struck out looking.
The Missouri Tigers improved to 12-7 on the season, 2-0 at home.
