The No. 21 Missouri Baseball team’s bats hit for the most runs in a conference game in 6 years in its 18-1 win against the Ole Miss Rebels on Saturday afternoon at Taylor Stadium. Behind pitcher Tanner Houck’s performance, Tiger hitters rocked the  Ole Miss pitching staff. The Tigers struck first in the game with three runs in the first inning. A Jake Ring five-pitch walk and Ryan Howard single put two on for Josh Lester’s team-leading 34th RBI of the season. With one on, Trey Harris crushed a two-run homer to push the Tiger lead after one inning to 3-0.

Mizzou put up five runs in the fifth inning after Jake Ivory hit his third career homerun. RBI singles from Ring and Howard left one on for Lester’s team-leading sixth homer of the season. Singles from Brett Bond and Ring put two on for Howard. Howard singled for two of his three RBI in the game. Lester came up next and doubled for the second of his four RBIs. Harris added another RBI to his three on the day with a single. Zach Lavy singled for an added RBI. Bond came up again in the inning and smoked a three-run shot between the practice football field uprights. At this point, the Tigers are up 17-0. But because 17 runs weren’t enough, Chris Akmon entered the game to pinch hit in the eighth inning and smashed his first homer for Missouri. Ending the inning with a score standing at 18-0.

In the ninth inning, Ole Miss finally got on the board tallying their only run of the game, making the final score 18-1. With this win, Missouri has already taken the series, but the final game of the series will be on Sunday.
