Mizzou picked up a comfortable win 97-75 at Mizzou Arena over Arkansas State to help the Tigers tune up for the Kansas game on Saturday.
Arkansas State was struggling all game long to keep up with the Tigers, with the Red Wolves shooting 36% from the field and only having 28 rebounds. Senior guard Zylion Shannon torched the Tigers however, with 26 points, six rebounds, and two assists, leading her team in points, but also in turnovers. Senior guard D’arrah Allen also played very well, off the bench, scoring 17 points and hitting nine shots from the foul line, the most of any player.
For Mizzou, junior guard Grace Slaughter led her team to victory with 25 points, 66% shooting from the field, nine rebounds, and only one turnover. The rest of the team played very well too, with a 56% field goal percentage, 46 rebounds, and 21 assists. The battle on the glass gave the Tigers many more chances to score efficiently, with Mizzou winning that battle by a margin of 18 rebounds. Junior guard Shannon Dowell, junior guard Abbey Schreacke, senior guard Jayla Smith and senior forward Jordana Reisma also scored in double digits for Mizzou.
Arkansas State kept it close in the first quarter, only down by three and holding the talented Tigers to only 17 points.
The Tigers pulled away in the second quarter, forcing eight turnovers and shooting 62% on the field. Slaughter led all scorers with nine this quarter as Mizzou led by 17 points at the half.
The third quarter was a track meet, with both teams combining to score 62 points and shoot over 50% from three point range. This high scoring affair saw Shannon score 17, carrying the Red Wolves on her back to keep up with the Tigers. However, Mizzou saw their lead increase by four points by the quarter’s end.
The fourth quarter was similar in that both teams lit up the scoreboard, but for Mizzou, they were able to hold onto their 21 point lead effectively. Reisma had ten points, leading the way to close out the game comfortably for the Tigers.
For Mizzou, their next game is a massive one, as they head to T-Mobile Arena for their neutral site game vs Kansas. Arkansas State on the other hand heads back home to an in-state clash with Little Rock on Saturday.
