Missouri lost a thriller to No. 6 Auburn in extra innings. After a two run rally from Mizzou in the 8th inning to tie the game at three, Missouri couldn’t put themselves over the hump.
This series is the first SEC matchup for both teams. Auburn won game one by a final score of 2-0 from a Bub Terrell home run. Game three started right after this game.
This game featured some great pitching performances. Auburn starter Jackson Sanders pitched seven innings of one run baseball. He gave up just three hits and surrendered one walk. Along with that, he tacked on eight strikeouts.
Drew Whalen came in during the eighth inning but had to leave after two thirds due to an apparent injury. That’s when the winning pitcher Ryan Hetzler came in. He allowed two runs, which were both credited to Whalen. After that, he was lights out, pitching shutouts in the ninth and 10th.
As for Missouri , Josh McDevitt got the start. He pitched into the seventh inning, where he was taken out with runners on second and third, one out. His final statline was two earned runs on two hits with 10 strikeouts.
Isaiah Salas came in to finish the seventh inning, where he allowed a sacrifice fly, crediting McDevitt with a run. Salas allowed two runners to start the eighth inning, prompting Mizzou to bring in Sam Rosand. He finished the game allowing one run on two hits, walking three batters and striking out four in three innings. That one earned run was enough to give him the loss.
The bats were pretty quiet this game, with a total of 13 hits between the two teams. Missouri had seven of those 13. Jake Woita and Pierre Seals both had two hits for Missouri, and Woita tacked on an RBI to go along with them. Kam Durnin had the other Missouri RBI in the eighth inning. The first Missouri run was scored on a Mateo Serna double play ball, so he was not credited with an RBI.
The Auburn Tigers had 6 hits in the game, with no player having more than one. Chase Fralick, Bub Terrell, Mason McCraine and Lucas Steele had the four RBI. The Fralick RBI was the game winning RBI, which came from a no out single in the 10th inning.
Mizzou looks to not get swept in the first SEC series of the season, as they play a double header today due to bad weather predictions for Sunday.
