The No. 25 Texas A&M swept Missouri in a three-game series, as the Aggies beat the Tigers 11-9 Friday, 14-6 Saturday and 14-3 Sunday via run rule.
The series comes off the heels of Texas A&M re-entering the rankings earlier this week, and Mizzou picking up its first SEC win against Tennessee last weekend. This series was critical for both teams, as Mizzou looked to rebound and gain its first series win over an SEC foe since last season and Texas A&M looking to continue its momentum.
Mizzou left 25 runners on base in the three games as the Texas A&M defense stepped up in critical positions, denying repeated opportunities for Mizzou to get back into the series’ three games, which ultimately cost them the series.
Texas A&M’s Gavin Grahovac had an amazing Saturday and Sunday with four home runs and 12 RBI, putting in work on a Mizzou pitching staff that made ten pitching changes, scrambling for answers.
Despite Mizzou’s furious comeback on Friday, Texas A&M’s pitching staff was otherwise spectacular, as the Aggies allowed 6.48 runs per game compared to Mizzou’s 15.3, recorded four more strikeouts than the Tigers and allowed six less home runs, showcasing the strength of the Aggies’ bullpen.
This performance did little to fix the Tigers defensive struggles, as in each of the three games, they allowed at least one inning in each game in whichTexas A&M scored seven runs or more, effectively putting the game out of reach each time.
Despite the woes, freshman shortstop Kam Durnin provided consistency. He hit for .750 on Friday, scored two runs on a double on Saturday and hit a solo shot on Sunday. He was the most productive batter that Mizzou got on this weekend. First baseman Jase Woita added four RBIs of his own. Mizzou takes on Kansas on Tuesday before heading to Lexington for a series against No. 19 Kentucky. Texas A&M hosts Sam Houston State on Tuesday before hosting Vanderbilt on the weekend.
